Preethi is one of the most well-known mixer grinder brands in India. It is one of the oldest Indian mixer brands which was established in the year 1978.
It not only sells its products in India, but also exports its mixies in several different countries. Not many know that Preethi is now a completely owned by renowned Philips brand of Netherlands. By some estimates it is the largest mixer grinder brand in India today.
Zodiac, which was launched in 2014, is the most successful product from Preethi. It is a combination of mixer grinder and food processor rolled into one. We have been tracking Preethi mixer grinder for more than 7 years now. Even though the price has increases from INR 3,000 in 2014, its popularity has only increased with time.
Let’s discuss its key features and reviews.
Preethi Zodiac Review 2021
Preethi Zodiac MG218 is a multipurpose mixer grinder. Which means that you can not only chop, grate and slice, but you can also knead atta and juice fruit with this appliance. India’s first mixer grinder with ROHS compliance that also uses food-grade plastic and high-endurance 750W motor.

As far as power is concerned, its motor comes with 750-watt rating, which is sufficient for even hard grinding. Which means that grinding hard ingredients such as spices is comparatively easier than other 500-watt mixers in the market. During our testing, we found it to be sufficiently powerful and we were able to prepare dough, purees and grind turmeric without much difficulty.
All the jars are made up of stainless steel or food-grade plastic. Blades are detachable and are built with stainless steel as well. Even though the quality of plastic is not bad, we feel that Preethi could have done better. It means that the mixer grinder requires proper maintenance and upkeep. Another thing is that replacement jars are not easily available.
As far as design is concerned, it is good-looking mixer grinder that comes in black color and its protruded base gives it a unique look, different from most of the other mixers in the market
The mixie comes with five jars, including a Master Chef jar which is a multipurpose jar that can be used for kneading, chopping, slicing, grating and juicing. Kneading blade is made of plastic, while other blades are made of stainless steel.
Its juicer jar is a centrifugal juicer (almost all juicer mixer grinders come with centrifugal juicers) that can be used for extracting juice from fruits. Even though Preethi states that you can use it for extracting of coconut milk, we feel that its better to keep your juicing activities limited to fruits and vegetables.
Its comes with 3 speed controls along with an incher for quick use, which is decent and similar to other mixers in the market.
Warranty of the product is 2-years, while the warranty on the motor is decent 5-years. This is better than some of the other Preethi brands such as Xpro Duo mixer grinder that come with only 1-year warranty on the product.
Preethi is known for bringing affordable mixer grinders in the market. Even though Zodiac is not the cheapest mixer grinder of its kind, it comes with affordable sun-10K price tag. Preethi Zodiac MG 235 is costlier than Zodiac MG 218.
Why You Should Consider this Mixer Grinder
Best aspect of this mixer is its powerful motor that makes most of the activities fast and easy. The master chef jar is good for slicing, atta kneading, chopping activities. You can use this jar for juicing as well with the help of citrus juicing blade. We used it for juicing orange and it worked decently.
When we tried to knead atta in the processor, we found that we were able to get kneaded atta in around 3 minutes straight. However, it needed some hand kneading as well after the machine kneading was over. Overall, we were satisfied with the working.
It also comes with an overload indicator that turns of the motor if it senses overheating to prevent unnecessary damage. Preethi has provided a button at the base to restart the mixer which you can use to start the appliance once the load is reduced.
What We Like
- Easy safety indicators- In case of overload, the color of indicator changes from Blue to Red and motor turns off.
- You can perform hard griding continuously for good amount of time without much difficultly. Hence grinding, sabut masala is relatively easy.
- It is a multipurpose appliance that is good for kneading, slicing, chopping and juicing.
- All the blades are detachable, which makes them super easy to use and clean. This is great because still many mixers in the market come with attached blades.
- It is value for money
What We Would Want to Improve
- Like other powerful mixer grinders, it makes good amount of noise. We feel that the noise levels are similar to some of the other mixers grinders in this range.
- Replacement jars are not easily available.
- It is not as efficient in juicing as we would like.
Preethi Zodiac mixer grinders are one of the most popular mixers in its range. It is an ideal companion in the kitchen if you are looking for a multipurpose mixer at decent pricing. Even though we would have wanted better juicing and kneading experience, considering its uses and price point, we feel that it is worth considering.
Also, Preethi MG 218 and Preethi MG 235, both come with equally powerful motor, but MG 235 comes with 4 jars, which is one less than MG 218 and pricing also slightly vary. You can check the price of Preethi Zodiac MG 218 here and Preethi Zodiac MG 235 here.
