Both Kent and Aquaguard are one of the most sought-after brands of water purifiers in India. In this article, we will discuss all the key aspects of both the brands such as technologies, performance, design, customer service, price, warranty etc.
Note: ‘Aquaguard’ word is usually used for all Eureka Forbes water purifiers. Therefore, in this article, we have used term ‘Aquaguard’ for all water purifier brands from Eureka Forbes such as Aquasure and Dr. Aquaguard.
Kent Vs Aquaguard Water Purifiers: Key Differences
Kent was founded by Dr. Mahesh Gupta, an IIT alumnus. It was founded almost more than two decades back in India. And withing a decade of entering the space, it had gained 30% market share within water purifier market.
It is almost hard to believes that it is such a young company, given it’s a household name. It is the leading water purifier with maximum market share in water purifier space. Also, it mainly focuses on RO water purifiers as compared to other technologies of water purification.
It was also first water purifier brand to bring wall mounted purifiers, which became instant success in India. Models such as Kent Grand, Kent Ultra were launched long time back and are still one of the most popular.
Aquaguard is another popular water purifier brand that is part of Eureka Forbes company. It is and one of the pioneers of home vacuum cleaners in India. It was started almost a decade before Kent, but it entered into water purifier space after few years from founding. Even though Aquaguard gives good competition to Kent, it has not been able to keep up with the sales of Kent. However, Aquaguard has long been one of the most sought-after water purifiers in UV purification space.
Aquaguard has developed more than 21 different types of purifying technologies to varying water conditions of India. However Aquaguard has also made slight modifications in many existing technologies and rebranded them as well.
Let us now look at the all the key features of both the water purifier brands in detail.
Key technologies of Aquaguard and Kent
|Patented Mineral infusion tech||MineralGuard (Mineralizer-based)||Mineral RO (TDS controller based)||Both have pros and cons|
|Cartridge-based technologies||Nutritron, Biotron, MineralGuard, Miracle Cartridge||None||Aquaguard|
|Water Wastage prevention tech||Green RO membrane||Zero Water Waste Technology||Kent|
|UV purification||Yes- eBoiling||Yes|
|Activated Carbon Filter||Yes- Chemi Block||Yes|
Kent is a pioneer in RO technology in India. Before Kent came into the market there was no player offering RO water purification technology in India. There were many ceramic candle water purifiers, chemical-based water purifiers and UV purifiers, but no technology to purify high TDS water. Kent was the first brand to not only bring RO technology in water purification, but they also invented Mineral RO technology to remove the drawback of RO purification. This is because RO purification tends to remove essential minerals from water. Mineral RO technology adds back the essential minerals that the RO purification removes.
Mineral cartridge adds back essential minerals into the water once the water is purified by RO purification. It does this by the help of a cartridge that contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium. This cartridge is called a Mineralizer and is different from TDS controller based technology used by Kent.
Comparison of Kent’s Mineral RO technology and Aquaguard’s MineralGuard technology
Mineral RO technology by Kent is a technology to add back essential minerals into the water with the help of a TDS controller. A TDS controller is a device that adds back small part of impure water back to pure water so that all the essential minerals present in water get added back to the water.
Advantages of Mineral RO technology by Kent
- Essential minerals are retained in water
- You can regulate the TDS level of water
- Not very costly device
Disadvantages of Mineral RO technology by Kent
- Should not be used with water containing heavy metals because heavy metals (such as cadmium, nickel, arsenic, mercury, nitrates etc.) can be harmful even in small doses. Thus, the water that is added back to purified water will contain heavy metals along with minerals which will contaminate the water.
MineralGuard or Mineral Cartridge technology by Aquaguard on the other hand, adds minerals from a cartridge that comes with the water purifier. It contains calcium and mineral.
Note: Aquaguard also comes with TDS controller-based water purifiers. MineralGuard is a patented technology from Aquaguard.
Advantages of MineralGuard technology by Aquaguard
- Ideal for toxic water containing impurities such as pesticide, arsenic, mercury, nickel, cadmium etc. as not impure water is added back.
- Retains essential minerals- calcium and magnesium
Disadvantages of MineralGuard technology by Aquaguard
- You cannot adjust the TDS level of water like with TDS controller
- Only limited elements are not added back
- Slightly costlier than TDS controller
Water Wastage Prevention Technology
One of the unique technologies that we have not found in other water purifiers is its Zero Water Waste technology. This technology reduces the biggest drawback of RO water purification system.
An RO water purifier wastes around 65-80% water. And this wasted water cannot be used for drinking and many other purposes. Kent’s zero water waste technology pumps this waste water back to the overhead tank, with the help of a pump. This water gets diluted with the rest of the water in the tank. This process wastes only 50% water. It means that this technology saves twice as much water as a regular RO water purifier can.
Aquaguard uses Green RO membrane to prevent water wastage. It is said to save up to 30% water. However, not much information is available about this technology.

Aquaguard have done lot of R&D in cartridge-based technology. They have patented cartridge-based technologies such as MineralGuard, Nutritron technology, Biotron technology, Miracle cartridge etc. A cartridge is a device that adds minerals or other substances into water to enhance it.
Nutritron cartridge is similar to mineral cartridge technology. Main difference is that it adds back copper and zinc, and in some cases calcium and magnesium as well.Zinc is essential mineral for energy, protein synthesis, blood cells development, while copper is essential element for human neurodevelopment and helps in absorption of iron.
According to Aquaguard, Biotron technology “makes water more bio-permeable for nutrient transportation in to biological system”. This means that it makes water molecules easier to get absorbed in the body
Miracle Cartridge removes heavy metals from water.
As far as purification technologies are concerned there is not much difference between Kent and Aquaguard. Both have RO, UF, UV, Activated Carbon, Sediment filters which are equally good.
Aquaguard has made few modifications in existing purification technologies and rebranded them.
Chemi block technology uses carbon to remove volatile organic compounds that can cause bad odour and taste. It also removes chlorine and its by-products. This technology is very similar to activated carbon technology being used in most other RO water purifiers.
Another technology that comes with most Aquaguard water purifiers is the e-Boiling technology that kills microorganisms. This technology is not much different from UV-based purification used in almost all the RO water purifiers of other brands.

2. Design and Build Quality
Another important factor to consider while choosing between Kent and Aquaguard is the design and build quality. Both the brands use high-grade plastics to manufacture their water purifier which stays durable and looks good for long time.
As far as design is concerned, most Kent water purifiers come with transparent cover to house filtration units and white storage tank. There is not much difference between many of its brands in terms of basic design. Be it Kent Grand, Kent Supreme or other water purifiers. It’s not that Kent does not offer water purifiers in other designs. Only the number of models with different unique designs is less. On top of this, the display panel / LED indicator system is also quite basic in many Kent water purifiers
As far as Aquaguard is concerned, they have invested decently in the design department. Many Aquaguard water purifiers come modern, stylish looks. Also, many Aquaguard water purifiers have unique designs, differentiating themselves from other models.
Price is another important factor that will help you decide which water purifier is best for you. Over the years Kent has managed to reduce their pricing considerably. In the year 2005, entry level Kent RO water purifier was priced at around 15,000 rupees. Now, entry level Kent ROs are priced at below 10,000 rupees. Kent have achieved this by using economies of scale.
Aquaguard on the other hand is priced higher than Kent in many categories. For example, finding Aquaguard water purifier in less than 10,000 rupees range is difficult. Higher price tag of Aquaguard makes it more appealing to certain user segments.
Even though Aquaguard is slightly more expensive as compared to Kent, both come with equally good quality water purifiers.

4. Customer Service and Maintenance Cost
Both the brands come with AMC packages- Annual Maintenance Contract. AMC is a contract that gives you access to free maintenance / replacement of certain products and service as per your chosen plan.
Both the brands have very similar AMC plans. The best AMC plan of Kent and Aquaguard covers service, filter maintenance, electrical part maintenance, filter membrane maintenance, and faulty parts maintenance. And the basic plan covers only servicing, where trained technician will do basic maintenance and check for any faults. Also, AMCs do not cover filters such as carbon filter, sediment filter, UF membrane, RO membrane, post carbon filter, etc. because they are considered as ‘consumables’.
Since all the plans come with free servicing, many customers opt for plans that cover electrical parts such as motor and SMPS.
If you go online for customer service reviews, you will find plenty of complaints for Aquaguard as well as Kent. This does not mean that service of either of them is bad. Both the brands have customer in crores. There will always be unsatisfied customers.
We have seen complaints regarding service technicians for both Kent and Aquaguard. But this not a common occurrence and it is always a good idea to check with your friends and neighbours in your area because service quality heavily depends on the location as well. Also, we will always recommend to go for AMC directly with the brand and not third party.
Also, there is a perception among some users that Aquaguard’s maintenance is costlier than Kent’s. However, there is not much difference between the two.
5. Purification Capacity (Flow Rate)
Both the brands come with water purifier with different capacities. Most of the Kent RO water purifiers come with high 20 litres per hour flow rate, while some water purifiers such as Kent Elite Plus come with a very high 50 litres per hour purification capacity. On the other hand most Aquaguard RO water purifiers come with 15 to 20 litres per hour purification capacity. Franky, purification speed should not have significant on most of the households.
Most Kent water purifiers come with 1 year warranty and additional 3 years of free service. Additional 3 years of free service includes free visits, where the technician will check for any faults. Part replacement is not included in the terms.
While most Aquaguard water purifiers come with 1 year warranty only. The terms of warranty can change any time, so please read the warranty card carefully before making any purchase.
Kent is a pioneer in the RO water purification, while Aquaguard has a long history of dominating the UV purification market. Kent’s Mineral RO technology has a slight edge over Aquaguard’s MineralGuard technology, and Kent’s zero water waste technology seems to be better than Aquaguard’s water wastage prevention technology- Green RO. However, Kent does not have any cartridge-based technology.
As far as design is concerned Aquaguard has a slight edge over Kent. Aquaguard water purifiers come in different types of designs and many of them look more modern. As far as service is considered, both the brands are equally good. Also, entry level RO water purifiers seem to be cheaper than entry level Aquaguard water purifiers.
